Because I've been asked...

This has come up a few times so I thought I would get the true story out. I know it will bore the general population so someone feel free to (please) post something more interesting.

I show up as Anne in gmail. Why, you ask?

Because I'm lazy.

I'll admit it.

My parents named me Adrianne and I have had to correct people my whole life. Actually for more than half of my life, I've had great friends who would correct people before I did and especially if I did not. I don't mind the name but I am also not overly protective of it.

I can't tell you how many times I've said, "No, it's not Adrienne it's Adrianne." or "yes, you pronounce it Aaaa dree annnnn." I have 2 brothers, 2 aunts, 1 uncle and 1 cousin that still don't pronounce it right.

That's a sign. If your family can't get it right, something's got to give.

You cannot order a pizza with a name like that and my maiden name, Clune, didn't help the matter.

Anyway long story short, I noticed that by dropping the Adri off of Adrianne, people could remember my name and life got easier. I've been going by Anne in my wards, work, new neighborhoods for the last 6+ years and it started to spill over...but really, I don't care what you call me.

I'll answer to Adrianne.

I'll answer to Anne.

I'll answer to hey you. I'm not picky, just tired of saying my 3 syllable name over and over.

Now I know I'm about to reach the point of TMI but I'll tell you the straw that broke the camel's back.

I had been faithfully attending my ward for almost 3 years when my parents came to visit. Someone at church called me Adrienne instead of Adrianne in front of my visiting mother. I didn't correct the person. (Did I mention that I was lazy about that??)

My mom decided that if people didn't know my name, I must not go to church and therefore, I was inactive. The long conversation that ensued for my inactivity was the final straw. I started to simplify.

Anne it would be.

So now you know. Even if you didn't want to.

I say thanks for changing it. When I was YW Pres. I had two Laurels that made things difficult. Don't get me wrong they were delightful girls but one was named Adrienne and one named Adrianne. To this day I always hesitate when I want to call one of them by their name. Yes, I resorted to "Hey" sometimes.

Really?? I've only met one other Adrianne in my whole life. They've all been Adriennes.

i always love how frank Syd is.

I like the way Adrianne sounds. I think it's such a pretty name. But I'm sort of stuck now - having learned it one way. So forgive the formality if I call you AdriAnne.

I do have a really good friend who's husband is Adrian. I call him Adrianne too. Maybe I'll start calling him Anne.
